Another Hip Hop mainstay and impresario, Shock G of Digital Underground, passed away this past week. He passed in the same month as DMX, and Black Rob, all with indelible marks on Hip Hop music and culture. These individuals all fought substance abuse issues which have cursed many artists, family members and fellow community members. The link is to a beautiful album that Shock G created in 2008, about 17 years from his heyday with Digital Underground. His music, showmanship and production skills were ground-breaking and he created good party music in a time that a violent gangster ethos took over the Rap industry. He helped develop the formidable career of Tupac Shakur and blazed trails for many musical talents and helped in Hip Hop’s early success to mainstream audiences. Rest in Peace Greg Jacobs, Shock G.
